The Tamarindo Diria just remodel some of their room, so they needed new photographs… and for that they’ve done the right thing: they hired me…

Late August 2010 the JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort & Spa, organized a Marathon for its staff in benefit of the Shelter of the Patronato Nacional de la Infancia in Santa Cruz, Guanacaste. The activity took place in Hacienda Pinilla and amongst the participants was the aclamated athlete Gabriela Traña, who was the inspiration of approximately 50 runners who each gave their biggest effort for a child´s smile. From early hours, the kids of the Patronato were present in the hotel to support the runners whom participated in two races, 6 and 10 kilometers.

The funds raised from the suscriptions will be destined to buy toys, school supplements, clothes and shoes for 14 children, boys and girls of ages between 0 and 12 years. On September 9, Children´s Day, representatives from the Resort will organize a party where they will give away the items to the kids of the Shelter.Francisco García, General Manager of the Resort commented that this year, the staff was very motivated and prepared better than last year. The physical resistance is important but the will to support the children was without a doubt the best incentive to run either the 6 or 10km.

“Organizing this kind of activities, allows us to interact with local people and that represents a fundamental and basic practice for our development. In the way we support the growth of our towns and local areas, that’s the way our hotels will become more successful”.Garcia also mentioned that, the Resort will keep on promoting this kind of activities that benefit different causes of the area.“We are thinking to support other activities for different local organizations. These will depend also from the Resort’s occupancy peaks. Usually the activities will be organized in winter or low season because that is when we can take out time and dedicate efforts for the causes”.

This year was the second time the Resort organizes the Marathon, and it takes place under their Corporate Social Responsibility Program. This year, the staff was motivated by the presence of Gabriela Traña, who shared all her support to the runners and encouraged them to keep on to the finish line, despite the high temperatures and humidity. “I feel honored to have been invited and its a pleasure for me to serve as the Guest of Honor of the activity. I think that this Marathon is a small way to help a great institution such as the PANI. When any type of sport is practiced whether you are professional or not, I think it is a sign of effort and sacrifice in order to help others. From my point of view each and every participant in this Marathon is already a winner just for the fact of participating in the event”, mentioned Traña.The JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort & Spa, is a luxury resort that works under the franchise agreement that the company suscribed with Hotel Real de Pinilla, S.A., a branch of Real Hotels & Resorts of El Salvador.

Raft Up 11/2009

This year they made it again… Organised By Jeff Herman (blue dolphin) and Surfrider foundation (Tamarindo chapter) The Raft up brings a big part of the community to playa Minhas, for a day of fun, music, sports and drinking… The proceeds were given to help different community projects (lifeguard, beach cleaning, etc…).

A long time Customer, “Los Altos de Eros” decided to update the photos we’ve made 4 years ago, just after the opening of the Spa & Inn.

The garden add grown a lot, the hotel as been extended… It’s always a pleasure to work up there It’s so quiet, the views beautiful…

Assignement "Vita Bella" Restaurant, Tamarindo.

I’ve been contract to shot some classic: “show what’s in the plate” food photos for Vita Bella restaurant.

This place is amazing for the spot they got: the terrace is offering a wonderful view for sunset… Really that’s something to check out…

Shooting families on the beach…

Nothing wrong with that… I could (should?) have said photographing families on the beach… So last months I had two sessions booked to record those families memories, one interesting thing about those shooting was the differences: The first one was a last minute contact from customers of the nearby Guanacaste JW Marriott, who wanted some classic portraits on playa Mansita at sunset:

The second one was people that I know for years for being residents of the area, Mauro being the editor of The Tamarindo News and the sushi master of the “Sushi Club”. I knew they’ll want more originals photos, but still OK to send to send to the family in Argentina… As they work the schedule was tight and I wanted an early morning shot in Tamarindo, well it doesn’t have to be too early, so they can show up… Anyway I decided a low tide moment in front of the Capitan Suizo, where the beach is almost empty of people with a few rocks and tide pool…

The similitude is obviously “The Children”… The most difficult specie on earth to capture, especially in 1 hour time, not knowing them and worst: them not knowing me on top of that, I have to face them with this big black thing in front of my friendly face and those tripod shooting flash in their little eyes…

I think having daughter, 2 and a half year ago, and having photographed her and her friend (only like thousands of times) help me a lot with children…

Festival Credomatic 2009 en Hacienda Pinilla. Bolshoi Theatre Quartet.

A wonderful sunset live concert in Hacienda Pinilla, part of the Festival Credomatic.

The Bolshoi Theater Quartet composed by Dimitriy Khakhamov (primer violín), Irina Petuhova (segundo violín), Alexander Balashov (viola) y Mikhail Shumskiy (violonchelo) gave of a lot of pleasure playing selections from Hadyn, Tchaikovsky and Alexandr Borodin… Live music, especially classic is missing a lot here, the regret we can have is the lack of publicity this event had in the zone… Very few local were present…

Assignment: Marathon at the Guanacaste JW Marriott.

The 31st of July the Guanacaste JW Marriott organized a Marathon, in fact a 10k and a 5k race for their employees, the goal was to raise money for the local school of Hernandez situated few kilometers away from the resort.

The event was able to raise 400.000 colones ($680) to buy appliance for the school.

Assignment: Tamarindo Airport and Las Baulas National Park.

Last week the Tamarindo News asked me to go shooting the Tamarindo airport to illustrate the cover story, after Mauricio Céspedes, CATURGUA Executive Director (Guanacaste’s Chamber of Tourism) stated that Tamarindo airport was in danger of being closed by the Civil Aviation Authority. So I could have a quick shot (as the dead line was deadly close), luckily had could make it on time to have planes there…

Assignement: Presidential Summit Tuxtla XI JW Marriott Hacienda Pinilla.

I’ve been contacted on the Morning prior to the arrival of the presidents at the Hotel. Pretty short notice… The PR of the Hotel was needed intern coverage for press release.

So I jumped in the pit…

The most interesting was the photo of president Oscar Arias in the Presidential suite… I could get in the room because my pass has been made by the Hotel and, mainly, because I use the Force to convince the security officer (I’m not the photographer you’re looking for…), Anyway calculating later I must have stay inside a maximum of 6 second… “Hola senor Presidente, Clic, Una mas por favor… Clic…”

Thrown out.

Wouf…

President Oscar Arias is meeting with heads of state of various Latin American countries today in a summit that will center on the Honduran crisis.

Though conversation at the 11th Tuxtla Summit at Guanacaste’s JW Marriott was intended to move between the A(H1N1) flu virus, the economic crisis and development opportunities in the Central American corridor, Arias opened discussion with a reflection on the mediation process.

“Let’s not back down in the struggle for a peaceful solution to the Honduran conflict,” Arias told the gathering of leaders including Mexican President Felipe Calderón, Salvadoran President Mauricio Funes, Panama’s Ricardo Martinelli and Colombia’s Alvaro Uribe, also present was Secretary General of the Organization of American States José Miguel Insulzas.
