I just have my last Trash the dress session chosen for the first “Real wedding Wednesday” on the new and promising blog: Estilo Costa Rica. Present with the photographs is an interview of Alicia (The Bride) talking about her experience with destination wedding in Costa Rica.
The best part of the interview is in my opinion there:
Who was your photographer and why did you hire him?
Toh Gouttenoire, wedding by Bidrop
Selecting a photographer via Internet and email was not a simple task. I spent hours searching through on line portfolios. International calling with a language barrier was just as daunting. When I spoke with Toh on the phone I realized he was the one for a few reasons in particular: His personality was energetic and creative. He understood my vision for unique photos. He always answered questions in a timely manner. Put simply, he made long distance planning easy.

A really relax and fun elopement at the Tamarindo Diria with Jaclyn and David, also the first time I was shooting a wedding at 10 AM… Being the rainy season, the newly weds to be were preoccupied by the possibility of the classic afternoon shower of this season… so we end up on the beach at 11 am under the hard light of a super hot sun… but it gave me something different than the usual (but always amazing) sunset… The little wind help us…

-The “Trash the dress” style seems to be all fashion these days in wedding photography all over the world, Costa Rica is no exception
Here how wikipedia defines it:
Trash the dress, also known as fearless bridal or rock the frock, is a style of wedding photography that contrasts elegant clothing with an environment in which it is out of place. It is generally shot in the style of fashion and glamour photography.
Usually brides decide to have pictures taken on a beach, but other locations include city streets, rooftops, garbage dumps, fields, and abandoned buildings.
Some sources claim that the trend was originally started in 2001 by Las Vegas wedding photographer John Michael Cooper[1]. However, the idea of destroying a wedding dress has been used in Hollywood symbolically since at least October 1998 when Meg Cummings of the show Sunset Beach ran into the ocean in her wedding dress after her wedding was badly interrupted. Since then the style has spread around the world and most notably in the UK, with photographers like Steve Gerrard[2] and Mark Theisinger[3], amongst others, shoot their unique ideas of Trash the Dress.
A model often wears a ball gown, prom dress or wedding dress, and may effectively ruin the dress in the process by getting it wet, dirty or in extreme circumstances tearing or destroying the garment.
It may be done as an additional shoot after the wedding, almost as a declaration that the wedding is done and the dress will not be used again. It is seen as an alternative to storing the dress away, never to be seen again.
The facts that we have beautiful beaches, dusty roads and dark mangroves helps a lot…
-
Yes it was also fun to do…
Here is what Alicia, the bride said of it:
Toh! I enjoyed rolling around in the sand and climbing trees. I would love to put on the dress again and go all over the world photo shooting in it. lol….seriously, thank you for understanding my vision and bringing it to life!!!

As last year at same the period Garnier BBDO contact me to cover the Marathon held by JW Mariott Guanacaste.

More here.

Late August 2010 the JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort & Spa, organized a Marathon for its staff in benefit of the Shelter of the Patronato Nacional de la Infancia in Santa Cruz, Guanacaste. The activity took place in Hacienda Pinilla and amongst the participants was the aclamated athlete Gabriela Traña, who was the inspiration of approximately 50 runners who each gave their biggest effort for a child´s smile. From early hours, the kids of the Patronato were present in the hotel to support the runners whom participated in two races, 6 and 10 kilometers.
The funds raised from the suscriptions will be destined to buy toys, school supplements, clothes and shoes for 14 children, boys and girls of ages between 0 and 12 years. On September 9, Children´s Day, representatives from the Resort will organize a party where they will give away the items to the kids of the Shelter.Francisco García, General Manager of the Resort commented that this year, the staff was very motivated and prepared better than last year. The physical resistance is important but the will to support the children was without a doubt the best incentive to run either the 6 or 10km.
“Organizing this kind of activities, allows us to interact with local people and that represents a fundamental and basic practice for our development. In the way we support the growth of our towns and local areas, that’s the way our hotels will become more successful”.Garcia also mentioned that, the Resort will keep on promoting this kind of activities that benefit different causes of the area.“We are thinking to support other activities for different local organizations. These will depend also from the Resort’s occupancy peaks. Usually the activities will be organized in winter or low season because that is when we can take out time and dedicate efforts for the causes”.
This year was the second time the Resort organizes the Marathon, and it takes place under their Corporate Social Responsibility Program. This year, the staff was motivated by the presence of Gabriela Traña, who shared all her support to the runners and encouraged them to keep on to the finish line, despite the high temperatures and humidity. “I feel honored to have been invited and its a pleasure for me to serve as the Guest of Honor of the activity. I think that this Marathon is a small way to help a great institution such as the PANI. When any type of sport is practiced whether you are professional or not, I think it is a sign of effort and sacrifice in order to help others. From my point of view each and every participant in this Marathon is already a winner just for the fact of participating in the event”, mentioned Traña.The JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort & Spa, is a luxury resort that works under the franchise agreement that the company suscribed with Hotel Real de Pinilla, S.A., a branch of Real Hotels & Resorts of El Salvador.
